Thanks to Tray, who has recently started asking me to go to play badminton again at my favourite favourite favourite badminton club – The Hong Kong Badminton Club.
I have rediscovered and rekindled my love of this sport. I haven’t played badminton (since recently) for about 2 years prior to this (and only once) and then probably since the birth of my first daughter. See, that’s how long it’s been – and she will be 5 in April next year! As a record, I’ve played 3 times in 1 month! That’s …

I’m REALLY REALLY sorry but here’s where I’ve gone (this is going to be a rant for sure…):
Key thing to note is that I didn’t properly back up my blog since Feb 2010 (and even if I did, the database file is unrecoverable). AHHHHH – that means I’ve lost all my posts for over 1 year! *pulling out my hair*
Secondly – my site got “hacked” because of some scripts that I was using and that killed my database (hence the loss of data) AHHHH!!
Thirdly I was so depressed at my …

When I read the news today “Battle stations as Mexican brings swine flu to HK” – I was actually slightly peeved that it’s actually happened – here. Peeved as a first response because the border patrols failed, but yet rational enough to think whether this could have been prevented. I know HK is already obtaining travel history for travelers arriving to HK – but should they be quaratining people (for a period of say 24 hours) who have declared that they have recently traveled to Mexico? This probably takes:
Honesty and brutal …

My parents have a story of a friend (a father) who was responsible for feeding his baby boy dinner one day. The instructions were to pull out the baby food from the fridge, reheat the bowl and simply feed it to the child. As it turns out, this child is extremely difficult to feed. He refused to eat and so the father, quite forcefully, made his child eat the entire bowl. Minutes after consuming his meal, the child became violently ill and spewed his guts (and more) and was admitted …

When you stop feeling challenged – maybe it’s time for an attitude change? There are people who like to sit at a certain level (be it their job, career, personal development, relationship depth, shoe collection size, style, whatever) and there are people who continually push for more. Sometimes the push is subconscious, because these are the people with FIRE (as my boss likes to say) and PASSION (as my sister likes to say) and DRIVE (as I like to say). Sometimes the push is from a superior and/or external source …

Thank you Tray for the photos (taken on an iPhone). Yesterday’s luncheon hosted by AMCHAM in Hong Kong proved to be an eventful, successful, interesting, and slightly embarrassing gathering. Matt is really a candid speaker who has pretty strong stances on open source platforms and software and is pretty anti-microsoft. Then again, most developers who walk around with MACs or veto open source usually are. He is passionate about his work, passionate about connecting people, passionate about technology and the types of projects that he’s involved in – are fascinating. …

I know of an organization who has lost its home. This organization is good and whole and its mission and vision are strong and meaningful. They work on projects that don’t make headlines and don’t generate revenue for shareholders. In fact, the shareholders are the people who benefit from their services the most – the children and youth of Hong Kong. They run programs for youth teaching them about financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and ethics to name a few, but all with very strong messages and a positive impact to those …

It’s common knowledge that children below the age of 3 should avoid peanuts. The reason being is that this early exposure to peanuts and other nuts can cause allergies as they develop – especially if anyone in the family has allergies to (pea)nuts. It is also recommended for mothers to avoid peanuts during their pregnancy and during breastfeeding if you want to be extra cautious in these areas. But as I look around at the people in Asia, peanuts (including peanut oil) is a common food and children of all …

And so, after making this post “Be careful of your Children in Hong Kong“, I ended up generating 800+ hits on one day with people searching with keywords such as “Hong Kong, kidnapping, urban myth” etc…
I have received both positive and negative comments from this post. And I’m even surprised to see myself in today’s Apple Daily (found courtesy of my husband) regarding this. A few things that I’d like to clarify:
1. This is a blog. It’s free space for publication of opinion, thoughts and things of this matter.
2. There …

UPDATE: “Continuation of this crazy post…”
I had to write this post today. It’s really a warning to other parents. You may call me paranoid or crazy, but the fact of the matter is that this is happening more and more frequently. Growing up as a Canadian in Toronto, you hear of children kidnappings, but you don’t really think it happens in your neighbour. True, the frequency isn’t as high and it’s more difficult. I asked my mother if she ever worried that her three children would get kidnapped and she …
