Comparison Of “Inputs” - Electronic Or Otherwise

I found this incredible comparison of “inputs” of a 221 word passage from theIphoneBlog (another great regular feed of mine).  I am an iPhone lover.  Ever since giving up my Palm Treo to “try” the iPhone, I have never looked back.  Sorry Palm, although I was a loyal and difficult-to-convert user, my husband managed to convince me and I am now a crazy Apple lover.
Back to my original point is how efficient the iPhone can be.  It’s not meant to be experimental, merely observational.  We all know that keyboard typing is …

My Amazon Kindle

I finally got an Amazon Kindle!  It’s great, it’s amazing, it’s portable, it’s convenient, it’s cheaper than going paper and it’s environmentally friendly.  Because I am so passionate about reading and literature, it’s the perfect solution to travel and lack of space in Hong Kong.  To be truthful, it’s not very common in Hong Kong -  I was riding the MTR today and everyone was staring at my darling kindle - probably wondering what on earth it was I was carrying.
Why should you consider getting one?

E-books are cheaper than print …

Maintaining Your Privacy Online

How to maintain your privacy online?  Sounds almost ironic, but with so many social networks these days, you’re bound to find information about yourself (even photos) when you least expect it.  It might not even be information that you’ve posted, but from third party sources like your friends and family who are very active social members.
I try to be more private, or at least feel that I am in control of my privacy - so here are a few tips I use to curb my exposure.
Facebook

Maximum privacy settings for Facebook.  …

IPhone Applications for Toddlers

My 3.5 year old daughter knows how to unlock my IPhone.  It’s not as easy as you think for a child.  This means she is able to drag a bar from left-to-right and then enter in a 4-PIN digit to unlock it.  She’s known how to do this for some time now and she knows how to launch a youTube application and find cartoons.  INCREDIBLE!
So, the obvious is unavoidable.  The usage of technology and handheld devices in and around the house.  I don’t bar my children from using technology, I …

Wiki Software

So my organization has been recently looking for some cool collaboration software.  Working with teams across the region is a difficult, if not impossible task to co-ordinate meetings, tasks, action items, agreements and even just simply getting things done.  The barriers?  Well, distance for one, remote working, and language.  Here’s where I’m finding I really need to polish and enhance my mandarin!
There are some really cool, cool technology out there that assists with all types of collaboration work.  One super cool one is a wiki software.  It is like an …

Google Contacts Gets Beefed Up

FINALLY!!!  After having posted about going completely “Googled” - meaning that I am now managing my contacts, calendar and email from one centralized place and I was complaining about the lack of features (or fields) in their contacts application, they’ve beefed it up!
You can now find fields such as:

Title
Company (It’s important now that my db is getting bigger and bigger)
Birthday (This is important to me - especially with so many kids)
Messaging Contacts (With ICQ, AOL, MSN, the works, I can’t remember it all)
Website
Nickname
Photo
And many more

I’m so glad they’ve finally put …

New Google SQUARED LABS

You know I am into new technology and features - especially when it comes to Google (they can be extremely innovative and think way out of the box when it comes to usability and features for web experience).  So check out Google Squared Labs!
What is it?  It’s basically a beta search tool (that is experimental) that collects facts from the web and organizes them into a consolidated and easy to read format (mainly tables) for you to view.  The idea is that you need to be using search terms that …

Using Google Calendar and Google Contacts

I’ve recently started using Google Calendar and Google Contacts as my primary places for storing events and contacts.  The reason is because it’s an easily accessible location (online) from virtually anywhere - even while traveling with my iPhone and it syncs nicely with my iPhone (from over the “air”).
At first, using Google Calendar can be a bit strange.  I’m not used to having “separate” calendars for things.  I mean, why not just assign categories or tags like Google Email rather than create a separate colour-coded calendar?  I can understand separating …

Digital Post-Its

I love digital post-its.  While searching for the perfect digital post-its, I came across the one, the original - 3M post-its.  They are great because there are a host of functions available for the simple post-it.

Change colours
Change fonts
Use numbers and bullets
Use cork boards for different categories
Hot keys for quick display

While there are a host of digital post-its available (even ones for free), none of them quite compare to 3M’s Post-It Digital Notes.  I really needed a desktop solution at work because I manage at least 10 different projects and at …

Change is in the Air…

Update on May 9, 2009:  SUCCESS!  The migration turned out to be a breeze.  The configuration turned out to be far easier than I had expected and the only hiccup that I really had was a mismatch of files across the two servers (thus a broken link for one day).  This is the beauty of wordpress.  And quite truthfully, that is how all migration projects should function.  Plug and play.  Why does software have to be that difficult?  OK OK, I will save my rant of difficult software for another …
