We went to Grand Hyatt for their dinner buffet a few weeks ago, so I am a bit late in posting this review. As most people who know me, my family are buffet fans and we love all types of buffets (so long as the food is good and it’s child-friendly).
The Tiffin lounge buffet is interesting. The choices are limited, but everything they serve is high quality and more “upper class” cuisine. You won’t find fried rice or noodles (like Cafe Too Shangri-La, where they are …

Wow! Yesterday (on behalf of my company) we went to the Happy Valley Hong Kong Jockey Club Racetrack. Let me sum up this experience in one word. Incredible. Even though it was a work night and I was with my colleagues, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It’s a consortium of good food, fine wines, great company, small talk and of course, winning (or losing) big money. We were placed in a private box up on the 8th floor with a private full course buffet, free flowing beverages, including alcohol …

On Sunday night, my husband wanted to surprise his father with a special “Father’s Day Buffet” at the InterContinental in Hong Kong. Easily enough, I searched for their number via google, called them up and made reservations 5 days earlier (wow, that was easy). When the day dawned and we headed over to the InterContinental - they told me that I didn’t have reservations at the buffet. Well, that’s a surprise! Instead, after having clarified we were actually booked at the InterContinental Grand Stanford Hotel - we had to pay …

Being out with 2 children is sometimes difficult to manage when you’re alone. This is often the case on Sundays, when my helper is off and my husband is away on business. How does a sole mother juggle two kids - both of whom can walk, but sometimes chooses not to. The option of letting one cry-it-out has been tried, but sometimes, I sympathize with wee ones because their legs are indeed shorter and they do walk “further” than adults.
The solution? A “Buggy Board“. More specifcally, a buggy …

Since I’m on the topic of strollers (see my rant on Strollers / Prams and HK Taxis), I made a reminder to myself that I needed to share my story about the Chicco Cortina / Extreme Stroller.
In general, I am a big fan of Maclaren strollers. However, since the birth of baby #2, we needed something a little more versitile and after walking through Chicco in Hong Kong - we are regular shoppers at Chicco and own most of their basic pieces (crib, travel cot, newborn stroller - which I …

Why this sudden urge to buy a high-powered, high-end vacuum cleaner? Well, it all started with a visit from a “Rainbow” vacuum representative. A friend had referred us to see their in-home demo and so because part of the demo included a mattress cleaning, we figured it would be worth it check it out. The Rainbow Cleaning System is truly cool. When the rep showed us the amount of “stuff” (dead skin cells, bed bugs, bed bug droppings, hair, dirt, dust) that came out of our mattress, it scared us. …

This is one amazing game for preschoolers. It’s educational and it’s fun! It’s even better when played with an adult to reinforce the learning. Since Vanessa has just started learning her alphabets at school (I think they are on the letters L, M, N), this is a great way for me to teach her more and it demonstrates just how far she’s come in her learning. The words that are in the game aren’t very complex, they contain words that she already knows, but just doesn’t know …

It seems that any new expectant mother I meet will ask me about my birthing experience, particularly if they reside in Hong Kong. I feel like I’ve told this story a million times and well, since some do ask and I do have pictures, I’m posting it here. I will talk about costs, experience and drop in some pics (obviously not the ones where I look half myself). In all fairness, this post is really focused on the private system in Hong Kong. I personally haven’t gone through the public …
