About
Who are you?
My name is Lisa Tong (obviously). I have an undergrad in Chemical Engineering, but have never used an ounce of what I learned technically from school. I have mainly worked in the technology industry and love, live and breathe technology. I used to be a full-time stay-at-home-mother of 2 beautiful daughters (hence the ability to write almost everyday), until I found a job. Now I just blog about things of interest. See next question.
What does blogging mean to you?
Blogging, to me, basically means saying what comes to mind. It means saying something with value-added content that the public internet domain could and would be interested in reading or seeing. It means trying to help others through experience and review sharing. It means using this readily available platform to keep track of some interesting tidbits that cross my path.
Isn’t lisatong.com too personal of an address?
Maybe. But I’ve had it since 1999 and I don’t want to give it up. I’ve been thinking about migrating this blog on to a more generic website address, but all the good ones are taken or being sold for a ludicrous price that the money doesn’t justify the hobby.
What’s with the locales?
I might confuse people by referencing several locales of residency. I currently reside in Hong Kong and have been here since 2004. But I have spent a great bulk of my life growing up in Toronto, Canada. I am a true Canuck and love it. There is no substitute for the REAL poutine, pure maple syrup, skating or skiing. Don’t ask me, I could go on and on.
What do you do for fun?
Blog. HAHA. Since the introduction of my children into my life, my priorities have shifted. I truly enjoy spending quality time with them. Everyday is a new adventure. I am a big badminton fan (although I don’t play as regularly as I would like, so every time I do play, I feel like I’ve been beat up). I’m also a gamer. World of warcraft, Diablo, NDS, Wii, Starcraft and the likes.
But you’re a girl, how come you don’t like shopping?
I shop on an as need basis and sadly everything is in a list. I shop online for household and basic needs. I hit specific shops when I need something and I make a beeline to exactly what I need. I rarely go shopping on my own because I have my children with me on weekends and they only want to go to the toy stores. Plus, my financial advisor tells me I need to save about at least $60,000 Canadian for each child to ensure they have sufficient funds for post secondary education. This doesn’t include the retarded costs incurred for primary or secondary schools in Hong Kong.
How do you manage work, family and fun?
There is a secret club called “The Super Moms Club”. It exists everywhere in the world and members do not know they’re members, they just are. Maybe you should read my post on “Working Smart“. I try to balance everything in my life and my family is certainly at the top of my priorities list. Who says you can’t work and love it? Ironically, I really do love my job right now. So at least I can work and have fun at the same time.
Where’s your picture?
I used to have one, but than my husband complained about being a public figure. He hates the publicity (even though there is none). I will reconsider putting up one when I find an appropriate one or maybe I’ll just cut out his face.

Final words…
What a pun. There are no final words in a blog unless it’s shutting down. I’ve only just started, so try to keep up. I know some of my articles are high traffic articles and I truly enjoy the comments and assistance I can provide to my readers. Please bare with me if I don’t respond right away, but my promise to you now is that I will respond to each and every comment and request eventually (and I don’t mean next year). I thank you for everyone’s continued support, it’s what drives me to continue writing useful and value added articles.

Hi Lisa
I came across your blog by accident, when I searched for information about Chinese confinement. Since then, I am hooked. Your articles are very well-written and entertaining at the same time. I really enjoyable reading them. I particularly like those topics about teaching children how to read, how to save, etc. Thanks for sharing your experience. Knowing how busy and how comments you must be receiving, please don’t worry about replying this. Just wanted to tell you that it is a job well-done.
Cheers,
Elaine

Hi Lisa - I just stumbled on your blog looking for info on hiring domestic helpers and I think it’s great! I’ve never actually read a blog before, but keep up the good work!
