IPhone Applications for Toddlers

My 3.5 year old daughter knows how to unlock my IPhone.  It’s not as easy as you think for a child.  This means she is able to drag a bar from left-to-right and then enter in a 4-PIN digit to unlock it.  She’s known how to do this for some time now and she knows how to launch a youTube application and find cartoons.  INCREDIBLE!
So, the obvious is unavoidable.  The usage of technology and handheld devices in and around the house.  I don’t bar my children from using technology, I …

Fine Printing

I like to plan ahead and this means thinking about ordering Christmas cards.  I know, it’s not even October, but truth be told, by the time I plan, find the pictures I want (or don’t have), order and get them shipped, it can be well over a month.  Never mind, getting the cards filled and customized to my friends and family abroad and sending them off to make it there in time for Christmas.  Unlike last year, I sent them out way after New Year’s.
I found this really professional and …

Bite-sized Pancakes

My children aren’t big fan of pancakes - especially if you make them your standard pancake size (the size of an average plate).  I think it’s too starchy for them and it isn’t sweet enough.  I am not prone to drenching their pancakes in maple syrup though, so my challenge:
a.  How to use up the remainder of my pancake mix
b.  How to get my kids to enjoy pancakes more
c.  Put a variety of breakfast ideas on the table (rather than their staple oatmeal)
I decided to make bite-sized pancakes with a …

I found this great, short read on “Great Employees”.  Definitely a unique perspective on characteristics of great employees and good guidance to what makes the great so great.  It isn’t, of course, the bible of great employees, but to me, there is some truth to this article.  Makes you think.

How to Build Homework into a Toddler’s Routine

I know, the title of this post is horrific, but I’m sorry, it’s realistic.  The truth about the Hong Kong education system is that homework must be routine in order for a child to succeed in it.  You can thwart the system all you want, but in the end, it will be you child paying for it (especially if you want to go into the local stream).
Even now, my child is enrolled in an international kindergarten, but starting as young as K1, homework is unavoidable.  It is, however, not mandatory …

Through my experience with PMs , I’ve come to recognize a few common traits that define power house Project Managers.  The one beef I have when doing interviews is that everyone says they are going to be PMP certified soon - meaning, they have intentions of doing the PMP certification test within the next few months.  Intentions are good and wholesome, but that doesn’t translate to actual.  The kicker really is the follow through step.  I have intentions of doing an MBA and ABC and DEF and XYZ - should …

Project Management at its Finest

At work the other day, I was helping a colleague build a project plan.  The key thing to draw out of this is when we can GO LIVE.  And given that, we needed to work fast in defining the key tasks and timeline - hence, the birth of this fabulous semi-Gantt chart pasted in my office on the wall in front of me.  I, therefore, am forced to stare at this for several days until I can translate it into a formal project (in soft copy).
I would really rather prefer …

Organic Baby Clothes

I’m a big fan or organic foods and truthfully, I haven’t really heard of organic clothing!  Here’s the new fad of going green (especially in what you wear) - it’s wearing clothing that is made of organic cotton (or other goods).  Which means, fertilizers and chemical pesticides aren’t used in growing these cottons and toxic materials such as perservatives and bleaches and dyes aren’t used to create great looking clothing.  Interesting huh?
I came across this really cool organic clothing site for children.  Apericots provides organic clothing for children.  The cutest thing …

Nature’s Destruction

While we know that nature is mainly a creator - it’s awesome how it can also be a destructor.  Although creation happens more often than destruction, its power is uncontrollable and unpredictable.   This is why humans create systems to work around nature and not against it.  And this is why you should stay indoors during a T8 - although many do venture out, you never know what’s going to fall.  I must say, I can’t imagine what it would have been liked if someone had been under that tree when it …

Tips for Computer Usage

The computer is so common place that its usage and how we’re using it is often an oversight and just part of life.  Well, this post kind of brings us back to the computer basics.  Almost like driving a car.  You drive it mechanically, but there are good drivers and bad drivers and basic guidelines that we should follow when getting behind the wheel.  Take this post to serve as gentle reminders about how to better use the computer (for our saftey and our sanity).
You might think that these days all …
