Disconnecting Back to Real Life

Not forever and not completely.  I’ve come to realize that we spend so much time “baking” in front of the computer because we’re bored.  We already “bake” at work and although I try to have some down time at work from the computer, it’s hard.  This is one of the primary reasons I have opted OUT of the blackberry.  To be fair, my children take up most of my resources on the weekend and to have this additional device attached to me will only make my life more hectic (when …

Stanford Swimming School Hong Kong

So I went on spy mode and took some candid illegal shots with my iPhone.  Yah, maybe I shouldn’t be posting them online, but I took the pictures by accident because they sure do look fuzzy, off center and not very clear.  This is Vanessa in the pool with her instructor.  She’s the little dot in the middle swimming with the red noodle.
If you’re not clear on what I’m talking about, read my original post on “Stanford Swimming School: Korean International School Review“.  I think the private lessons are …

H&M in Hong Kong - Coming to Taikoo Shing!

More specifically - H&M in Tai Koo Shing! WOOHOO!  I am a big fan of H&M for several reasons.  For starters, their clothing is affordable.  Having to put 2 kids through private school (for now), saving for our retirement, saving for their future education - being frugal is my middle name.  I don’t frequent the H&M in Central very often because I am usually eating lunch at my desk or with friends and rarely have time to go “shopping” and it’s super crowded.   Secondly, I like that H&M’s clothing …

This is a GREAT article!  A definite must read - just as a precaution and as information.  This is a great article to send to your parents (like my mom - who is web savvy, but still not clear of the risks that today’s internet scam artists pose).  There is some great advice on what to be careful of.  Of course, as a techie myself, I already know most of these things, but a refresher isn’t a bad idea.  The thing I loved the most about this article is not …

The Challenges of Disciplining Children

I had one of the most amazing and stimulating parenting crash courses of my life (thus far this morning).  I have always been a strong disciplinary to my kids.  I have quite a rigid and structured approach to providing guidance for my children and am consistent in applying it wherever applicable.
This morning’s lesson took about an hour and it was unplanned.  The story unfolds like this.  My youngest daughter (aged 1.5 years) gets upset at her older sister (aged 3.5 years) because the elder tried to take a toy from …

Only in the US would someone be this retarded to go and sue the place where she obtained her degree. For starters, getting a degree doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed a job. And I don’t think colleges or schools guarantee job placement after graduation - especially in today’s volatile and turbulent job market.
To think that it is your “right” to have a job upon graduation is one of the most ignorant and lack of planning I have ever seen.  What’s worse is that this girl is taxing the legal system by …

Recommended Childrens’ Books

I found a great series of books for kids!  I actually came across is accidentally in the book store and when I flipped through it, I laughed my head off and could picture my kids loving it!  And it’s true, Vanessa LOVES these books.  They are probably her #1 choice of books at the moment.
The writer is Mo Williems - who actually began his career as a writer and animator on Sesame Street.  He’s creative and funny, but minimalistic at the same time.  You have to pick up one of …

After Dinner Conversations

All families have after dinner conversations (unless the TV dominates) and whether the conversations are casual, formal, sarcastic or random - it’s a good place and time to really sit down and bond with your children (I think). Although I find that the conversations with my children range from as early as the time they wake up to right before they pass out for the night.

You have to give Vanessa credit for being direct.  I’m not sure she was referring to the meat of her body or the meat she …
