We went to Grand Hyatt for their dinner buffet a few weeks ago, so I am a bit late in posting this review. As most people who know me, my family are buffet fans and we love all types of buffets (so long as the food is good and it’s child-friendly).
The Tiffin lounge buffet is interesting. The choices are limited, but everything they serve is high quality and more “upper class” cuisine. You won’t find fried rice or noodles (like Cafe Too Shangri-La, where they are …

An interesting activity that not all project managers face. Truthfully speaking, finance and budgeting was never my strong point and in hindsight, thinking that I should have taken it in school - but never too late to learn it. Here’s a good read on a high level strategic activity to assist with building a budget or project listing.

So school has “unofficially” started for Vanessa today. They are giving me back 4 days of the 1 month that was robbed because of swine flu. I am not really complaining because the swine flu is what it is - potentially dangerous and the call to close the primary and kindergartens was rightfully executed.
Here’s my checklist for getting prepared. Since Vanessa enters K1 this year and she’s attending the 9AM-2PM segment, she’s required to eat lunch there as well and therefore, I need to be prepared to handle all her …

I am the hyperparent. I admit it. Read the article enclosed and you’ll realize that all the things Leo talks about - IS ME! So, I like some of his advice on taking it easy and letting kids be kids. This in-line with some of the activities I’m lining up for Vanessa RIGHT NOW, Swimming and Dancing in particular. I’ve asked her a few times whether she wants to dance or swim and she said “No”, but she does like recreational swimming - just not lessons (because she hates the …

And so ends the summer ballet season for toddlers. Vanessa’s first summer program came to a fantastic end last Thursday when the class showed off their dancing skills to their parents and grandparents. The entire class of 15 girls did a mini tribute to end their season with twirling, swirling and toe-touching feats. The girls are so cute in their pink tutus (I think the costume is more a gimmick for the parents to take pictures and gawk at how cute their children are than for the sake of dancing) …

A great read on doing presentations and powerpoints. I do A LOT of powerpoints and presentations and some of these pointers are interesting. I do agree that you should reduce the amount of information on your slides, especially words. I’ve seen so many presentations in my life and so often they are jam packed with words and pictures mixed with words that it becomes more a novel than a presentation. I am also not a big fan of presentations with stuff that fly around (in or out or whatever). My …

So today’s experience at the park prompted this post of “Stray Children”. It started with 4 boys - one younger one about 8-9 years and another about 10-11 years old (based on size) and 2 others on bikes who were observers. These two guys were literally beating each other up at the park! They were screaming at each other and scratching and grabbing each other’s shirts and flinging each other around - in front of my kids who just arrived to play on the equipment. You can imagine my shock. …

This article isn’t Hong Kong specific - although some of the suggestions here are for places where the pollution is high and the air quality just isn’t there. I write this post as thoughts of how I can create a fresher breathing place for my kids (and self and husband). My husband has asthma, so clean air is almost a MUST have for our family. Here are a few proactive tips you can apply to your house to help keep the air clean.
Avoid using carpets. Carpets creates micro debris and …

Well, the winners were announced last week for the My Moleskine 2.0 competition and I, unfortunately, was not on the list! If you’re not clear on what I’m talking about, you can see this post I made on the creation of My Moleskine 2.0 hack.
Here is their announcement on the winners:
We are now happy to announce that among more than 300 votes,
the top winner is the creative project “one day in Istanbul” by Bengisu Bayrak from Turkey.
The second place goes to the project inspired by Calvino’s Invisible …
