Drinking Tea is Healthier than Drinking Water

I love BBC news. It’s one of my regular news feeds - especially their “magazine” section which talks about random and interesting things. Here’s one find that really jives with me - how “drinking” tea appears to be healthier than just “drinking water”. There is a conception that tea has caffeine, which leads to dehydration - but this is in extreme amounts. This article does a great job of balancing why teas are good for you and clarifies the dehydration phenomenon.
Teas contain both antioxidants (which are known to assist with anti-aging and killing free radicals in the body and skin) and polyphenol (which reduces heart diseases and prevents cancer). It is recommended to drink 3-4 cups of teas a day - obviously not in killer amounts. Everything in moderation.
My favourite tea of all kind is the “Ginseng Oolong Tea“. This tea is actually a finalist in the World Tea Championships. And can you believe it, there is a “World Tea Expo” for those crazy tea-lovers. Anyways - this is not a cheap tea. It sells for about $300 - $500 HKD for a small pack of Ginseng Oolong - but the taste is amazing. At first, it tastes slightly bitter, but as it settles, it becomes sweet. You should try it, it’s really an amazing tea with minimal caffeine and creates an amazingly sweet aftertaste. I love it.
I normally drink about 3-4 tall glasses of water a day at work, but I find that if I drink Chinese teas (as opposed to English teas because I usually add sugar and milk), I can down at least 4-6 glasses. The down side is that I have to go to the bathroom at least 5-6 times a day! However, this I don’t mind as it serves to remind me that I need to stretch my wrists and legs every so often because I sit so many hours at the office in front of a computer!

Interesting article! I’m assuming this article refers to English tea, not Chinese tea? Agree that English tea isn’t as healthy b/c you add sugar and milk!!
