Children’s Ballet Class in Hong Kong

Having followed up on my previous post of  “Summer Activities for Children in Hong Kong“, Vanessa had her trial class today at Vivian Kwok School of Ballet.  The class had about 10 regular students and 5 trial students.  This is actually quite normal on Saturdays because they are obviously promoting their summer programs for toddlers.

I was impressed with the school from the beginning.  The children are dressed all in cute ballet outfits (probably one of the selling points for young children because they really do look adorable and the school makes a profit off selling them).  However, I was furthermore impressed with the 10 minutes of participation I had at the beginning of the class.  They learn the basics of stretching and sitting up straight and good posture.  Then they went to learn movement and will sing popular songs like “Incy Wincy Spider” and “London Bridge” while doing free movement.  I left Vanessa to the class and sat out for about 30 minutes (the duration of the class is 45 minutes).  And upon completion of the class, Vanessa told me that she looooooved dancing.  LOL.  Need I say more?  I signed her up for the remainder of June (4 classes at $750) and the summer program (10 classes at $1200 HKD).

The great thing about the classes is that it’s fun for the kids.  I don’t think they take the ballet portion of it very seriously, but introduce children the basics of movement and music and rhythm.  Plus, it’s something to help kill time, burn their energy, introduce them socially to other children and participate in something other than school.  Whether this will turn into a long term, full-time commitment is another story.  For now, I will let Vanessa enjoy her childhood.

How GREAT that Vanessa likes it! I still can’t leave Natalie alone just yet without her screaming her head off, but hopefully, when she starts school, that will help!
