Ok, I am on my 3rd helper too and having read your articles, I feel there is light at the end of the tunnel.

How would you deal with issues such as helper stealing items such as food & drinks. We do provide her with food but we do have a rule whereby she is told what she can eat. We buy her food and label them with her name and she should not touch anything else beyond that.

Since she arrived I find myself constantly needing to buy milk, bottled water and rice. These are at the end of the day not a big deal but I wish to make a point as a matter of principal. She knows she is not supposed to drink milk which is reserved for my kids but they disappear like water. When confronted she always says she does not drink milk. I find this to be a breach of trust. I did explain to her how important it is for me to be able to trust her, but I am not sure if she gets it.

What to do?

This has been so much help, we are expecting our first DH and are now starting to write rules, schedules and instructions on how to do basic things (cleaning etc). Would love to have a copy of your rules. Thanks heaps on all the helpful info!!

Thanks for sharing this topic. I guess this also applies to hiring a domestic helper in Taipei as well. I'm forwarding this article to my mom and sister in law. They're having a challenge with their current DH and looking for a new one.

Great article, Li! I'm sure you will get a good response. BTW, you may want to post your "rules" as a reference? If I were hiring, I know I would be very interested in your rules list!
