A Plea for Assistance
I know of an organization who has lost its home. This organization is good and whole and its mission and vision are strong and meaningful. They work on projects that don’t make headlines and don’t generate revenue for shareholders. In fact, the shareholders are the people who benefit from their services the most – the children and youth of Hong Kong. They run programs for youth teaching them about financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and ethics to name a few, but all with very strong messages and a positive impact to those who need it. Today, my post is about giving back to those who focus on just that – giving.
Junior Achievement Hong Kong, a relatively long resident in their wonderful home in St.George’s is now looking for a new home. They have a temporary one, but no furniture! And it’s only temporary. In times of financial crisis, it is usually the non-critical and non-profits that hurt the most.
Today, I went into their office to clean out some stuff that had belonged to me during my employment there. Tsk tsk on me for not cleaning it out earlier, but the team seemed sad and excited to go. Sad because it would mean leaving behind a legacy on which the company was built, sad because it would mean the loss of a significant sponsorship which helped keep the company afloat and sad because anything moving forward would mean an additional cost and burden to the financials – which should be dedicated to delivering projects for kids. But on the flip side, you have excited because they are moving to a new, albeit, temporary home and excited because this home is truly theirs.
Anyways, what they are really asking for in the end is anything that can translate into monetary sponsorship. I won’t beat around the bush about that, because every organization needs money to survive. But even a donation of office space, furniture, whatever, will help. As their famous saying goes: “Let Their Success Be Your Inspiration!”.

Oh I am so saddened to hear about JA and the office space situation. It is so tough in this economy. JA is such a great company, let’s hope they can get through this tough time.
