Boggle Jr. For Kids!

This is one amazing game for preschoolers.  It’s educational and it’s fun!  It’s even better when played with an adult to reinforce the learning.  Since Vanessa has just started learning her alphabets at school (I think they are on the letters L, M, N), this is a great way for me to teach her more and it demonstrates just how far she’s come in her learning.  The words that are in the game aren’t very complex, they contain words that she already knows, but just doesn’t know how to spell - like FISH, COW, MOON, EGG and the likes.  All the words are either 3 or 4 letters in length.

Two types of play

  1. The first is to play and spell the letters as you see them.  It’s pretty basic, but it’s a wonderful learning experience and Vanessa gets a thrill when I applaud her and praise her brilliance.
  2. The second type of play is to actually cover the letters and see just the picture.  This means they are going by memory on how to spell the letter - fabulous step to what they were learning previously.

I am highly impressed by the simplicity and educational value of this game.  It’s a great “board” game for toddlers and you can play with more than one player, although Vanessa only wanted to play by herself with me clapping beside her.  The game retails for around $150 HKD at Toys R Us and comes with a large stack of common words to play with.

Below is a video of me and Vanessa playing it this morning.  You can see how easy it is to play and when the parent is involved, the child is ecstatic at the audience.  Yah, they all want bragging rights too.

That is really truly amazing! I can’t believe Vanessa is spelling now… is she really almost THREE?! Crazy. Now I know how those “aunties” feel whenever they visited us and pinched our cheeks and said things like, “Wah, so big now!”

Natalie just watched and is now hopping up and down on my lap saying “Mor Essa! Mommy, more Essa!”. When I ask her, do you like? She says, “Liiiike!”
