Cafe Too, Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong

We love buffets and what better place to go than to Cafe Too in Island Shangri-La in Hong Kong?  Well, I think I prefer JW Marriott’s buffet, but we were number 38 on the wait list as of this morning and there was no way we’d get in, so we apted for Cafe Too (which isn’t bad either).  Their selection is quite broad with sushi, sashimi, fresh oyster, crab, shrimp, a very large array of salads, steak, hot noodles (with your choice of toppings), chinese dim sum, a variety of curries, lots of cooked veggie dishes, fried rice and a whole dessert bar with 3 chocolate fountains (strawberry, vanilla and chocolate).

The one thing that kids love about buffets is the dessert bar.  It’s the first thing they gravitate to and it’s the only place they will go to the whole time.  Vanessa pretty much sampled every dessert possible.  Of course, while enticing her with ice cream, I was shoveling rice into her mouth.   I am still very strict with Vanessa’s diet and strive to give her body a healthy start.  Once they begin making informed meal choices, I can’t count on her not having Mc D’s everyday or instant noodles.  I know what kind of crap college kids eat, after all, I was there.

So at the buffet, Vanessa had chocolate and strawberry ice cream (half a scoop of each).  She had some chestnut chocolate brownie,  chocolate mousse, strawberry mousse, custard, strawberry cake, green tea cake, and lots of fresh strawberries (which were quite sweet).  I think the sugar high hit her shortly after because she didn’t nap until 1:30 and even then, her nap lasted until 4:30 (way after we got home).

I do like buffets too, but going with two children can be challenging.  Since Victoria is now on solids, it’s another “real” meal I have to feed as opposed to putting her on the breast.  However, since I am a fan of food sampling as well, it’s always a nice treat to go to one and with a stroller in hand and plenty of helpful hands, the kids can eat and then crash.

Very cute pictures. Vanessa can do the “V” sign now, what a total fob. Love the last pic too, like grandfather like granddaughter – totally focused on dessert.
