My children LOVE sushi. It’s because 1. we’re in ASIA, 2. they attend an international + Japanese kindergarten and 3. they like the sweet/vinegar rice and seaweed. My youngest daughter is actually a HUGE fan …

May The Safe Be With You

Our new safe has finally arrived.  I spoke of getting a safe in my article “Hiring a Domestic Helper in Hong Kong” and true to my word, our safe is now sitting happily in our closet.  This one is great (although rather ugly) and highly affordable.  Coming in at around HKD $2500 purchased as Jusco, it comes with the following features:

  • Fits A4 sized papers
  • Has keypad lock as well as physical key lock
  • Has a spare key lock (behind the keypad) in case you don’t remember your keypad code
  • Comes 3 regular keys and 2 keypad keys
  • Can hold a keypad code of 4-10 digits (10 digits!?)
  • Is fire resistant for up to 2 hours
  • Is water resistant
  • Is rust-proof
  • Has a built in alarm that will ring if the keypad is tampered or the whole unit is moved
  • The battery pack for the keypad is built on the inside, but there is a spare battery connection on the outside (in case the battery on the inside fails)
  • Weighs 45kg (pretty heavy duty)

So I’m super happy with this safe.  We don’t really keep much in it except for our passports, some important documents (like birth certificates), jewelry (ones that haven’t already been moved to the safe deposit box) and spare cash (not millions OK? Not even thousands, so don’t think about it).  Again, this is merely a precaution because we do have someone who regularly cleans our room and isn’t part of our family living here.  You may think I’m being a paranoid freak, but for 2 grand, I’d rather err on the side of caution than have Dennis freak out that his watch is missing (it’s happened before – he just misplaced it).
